The Resolute

by Satyam Pati

Satyam Pati’s poem is about that unwavering soul inside all of us which dares. It celebrates our ability to face great odds and still stand tall.

Though the seas tried to drown me,
In stormy waves of unrelenting anger,
I broke through the seething foam,
Humbled, yet unbowed.

Though the earth tried to bury me,
In furious upheavals of stone and dirt,
I clawed through the rubble,
Broken, yet upright

Though the fires tried to burn me,
In searing sheets of merciless flame,
I rose through the ashes
Smouldering, yet unsullied

Though tragedy tried to break me,
In a smothering embrace of hopeless gloom,
I emerged through the darkness,
wounded, yet whole

Now hear me fate, or gods whatever be your make,
I fight, I rise, against odds great
Not mercy, nor pity, I need no words pithy
My spirit is my bearer, my will my anchor
In the guise of ill luck, let loose inevitability
You will find me resolute, and my armour ready
