The Joys of Spring

by Anupama Krishnakumar

Lovable flowers nature does bring

In honey sweet voices birds do sing

What else it is but the beautiful spring

I yearn to get on to that good ol’ swing.

Ah, my sinewy swing on the peepul tree

It’s time again to swing about carefree

With you I unearth the childish me

A better joy can there anything be?

Smelling a dizzying sweetness in the air

Watching butterflies dart without care

Drinking the beauty nature decides to bare

Sitting on you swing, there’s nothing I spare.

Reveling in the beauty and singing a song

Feeling there’s nothing that can go wrong

Wishing that the cheer lasts all year long

I swing past flowers that honeybees throng.

From summers and winters let’s be free

Why not this Spring always, that’s full of glee

O’ dear girl on the swing, Nature tells me

Else, you can’t know how fine Spring can be.
