Astrologically Aligned

by Vinita Agrawal

A couple in love, and yearning to be together, are unfortunately unable to do so due to worldly constraints. Vinita Agrawal pens a poem on the ‘astrologically aligned’ pair.

Fan folds of the cosmos ridged like crested straits of shining light
Split the moon into twins like celestial earphones amplifying the symphony of the night
Negativity dries up, yawning compulsions and choices go missing
These are earth-bound retrievals of stories drowsing in history’s hissing
A cloud of divine sound breathes softly in my palpitating valves
Shuddering in fascination at this momentous joining of long forgotten halves
A sonnet sung, a parchment rolled in blue-black mezzanine desires
A scent of seeds splitting in the embers of resplendent leaping fires
A scroll of truths handed down to hands that don’t know how to hold it
Insert it into our veins, desperately plucked blood will know how to unfold it
Scalpels have not yet unravelled the debonair morse code of love
Why earth becomes heaven and heaven a piece of firmament grounded from above
The prickly pineapple thorns don’t hurt any more, in fact they delight
Punctuating our endearing laughter with the pain of our plight
You should try this epoch foolhardiness with me all over again
Just to take another ride down this staggering roller-coaster pain
And it will be another perfection to smoothly land at last
In the scent of our belonging, cotton wrapped for the future but silken from the past.

Vinita is a Delhi based writer and poet and has been published in international print and online journals.

  1. In this thought provoking anguish,Vinita has brought out the intense longing of man to uncover his Origin-Here the writer goes one step further, that only poets can climb and enter,to picture the torment of separateness from the Origin that man confronts on this quest-When she speaks of ‘palpitating valves’it a reference to that divine vibration, which no scalpel can reveal-Seeds from a fiery Origin, entail an equal response when this body rises in anticipation,to disrobe that cardinal truth, that has eluded man,but embraced the writer-

  2. I can feel the ambition and stretch here in Vinita’s new piece – which is a good feeling… Not only in the structure of rhyming couplets – which is delightful and an excellent counterpoint to issues explored… but also in this brave poet’s search to uncover elemental truths and to find deeper meaning. As always nuggets of poetic beauty are scattered liberally throughout. I especially enjoyed:

‘Fan folds of the cosmos ridged like crested straits of shining light…’

‘A sonnet sung, a parchment rolled in blue-black mezzanine desires…’

AND of course the final line:

‘In the scent of our belonging, cotton wrapped for the future but silken from the past.’

Thanks to Vinita for sharing… With Best Wishes Scott http://www.scotthastie.com
