This painting captures the holistic relationship of adivasis with Mother Earth. The universe beyond is the universe within, where people live in reciprocity with living forms. Charanya painted this in 2017, inspired by the Savara Adivasis in Srikakulam district, Andhra Pradesh, who continue to struggle to secure the forests, and their lives as custodians of the rights of Mother Earth.
As an artist, Charanya’s practice is located in social and transformative processes. She have facilitated art workshops with women, youth and children from adivasi, Dalit and marginal farming communities on aspects of gender equality, food and agriculture and social justice.
