Just a moment ago, she was wide-eyed
But when the lens finds her and she, the lens,
She adjusts her smile and her fingers glide
Past the hair strands that flutter in impudence.
Behind her the rocks and the water gleam,
Lighting up each other in delight.
Look! An egret drinks fresh from the stream!
More lovely than machinable minds can write!
All this one moment ago had held his ken
But now he found in her the quiddity,
The essence of what it was to live then,
What it meant to behold such sure beauty!
Then he hastened to capture and so frame
His epiphany forever in time,
But her eyes had dropped and her face burned with shame;
Just when he clicked: he had pictured the sublime!
Thus was born this photo into this world,
As serendipitous as anything can be;
Grace, poise and resplendence in one frame curled
By chance into an ardent ecstasy.
And when we do cast our searching glances
At the picture to try find out what it shows,
We forget all thought of the chances
Involved. What remains only enhances
Her smile and the liquefaction of her clothes.
